The focus of this compilation revolves around solidarity: how people cultivated, practiced or simply reactivated it during the pandemic in Latin America. The book results from a research project designed by an international team of academics from Latin American and European universities.

Case studies based on eight Latin American countries (Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador and Chile) examine whether expressions of solidarity - on the part of individuals, groups and states - have been sufficient or sustainable in the face of the many challenges posed by the pandemic. The analyses are anchored in everyday life, with multidisciplinary approaches predominating.

Authors address social inequalities, citizen-state relations, multiple forms of social solidarity, or lack thereof, and collective responsibility during the pandemic. At the same time, they propose methodologies for building knowledge through horizontal relationships between research teams and study participants.

This book is an invitation to the academic community to reflect not only on the impacts of COVID-19, but also on how solidarity research is being carried out in our region.
